The focus of the book lies on the length of the period of the Neanderthals. For example, at Combe Grenal (Dordogne), 50 to 60 distinct strata are counted as around 80,000 years, although pollen analysis can only prove 50 to 60 summers. 1,500 substrata per summer, that would have to be shown to justify a date of 130,000 to 50,000 BC, do not exist. Convincing explanations for counting a single summer as 1,500 years are still (2021) lacking.
